People, progress & projects: 2025 in review, 2026 in preview

7 min read  •  December 30, 2025

It may sound unbelievable, but it’s true: another year has already gone by. And as is customary at the end of the year, we would like to take this opportunity to look back on 2025 – a year marked by many highlights, but also by tangible challenges.

For us, 2025 was above all a year in which data security and data protection moved further into the public spotlight. In a way, current U.S. foreign policy has contributed to making topics such as digital sovereignty socially accepted and discussed far beyond specialist circles. We have felt this very clearly. Never before have we been approached so frequently about these issues as we were this year.

Once again, 2025 has shown that trust, courage, and ambition are essential for long-term stability in an environment that is constantly changing. Despite the ongoing challenging economic conditions, we are pleased to say that Stackfield remains firmly on a growth trajectory. In the following article, we take a look at the highlights of the past year and offer a brief preview of what we have in store for you in 2026.

Our highlights of the past year

There were plenty of defining moments in 2025 – and some of them will continue to shape us for some time to come, as a look at our key highlights shows.

Digital sovereignty has entered the mainstream

Last year, the term "digital sovereignty" still often prompted puzzled looks and shrugged shoulders. In 2025, however, understanding of the concept has grown significantly – driven in no small part by an increasingly tense global political environment. Many public administrations and organizations have now come to realize that the dependencies they have willingly entered into over many years, and in some cases continue to enter into, run counter to a European understanding of freedom and independence.

Dependencies on major U.S. corporations such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, combined with very real political instruments like the CLOUD Act, are increasingly a cause for concern in Europe. The transfer of sensitive data abroad can no longer be ruled out. What was dismissed for years as unrealistic is now becoming an ever more tangible reality: technological dependencies can turn into concrete risks for users in the EU as a result of U.S. political decisions. The interference with the work of employees at the International Court of Justice is just one sobering example of a situation that, from a European perspective, has scarcely existed in this form until now.

Europa on a bull

All the more encouraging, then, is the fact that a growing number of organizations and institutions are focusing on values rooted in Europe – values that embody the European ideals of freedom, security, and independence. Countries such as Denmark and Austria are already leading the way, actively working to reduce dependencies. Comparable initiatives can also be found in Germany, for example in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein.

For us, as a fully data-protection-compliant software provider that is not only based in Germany but also exclusively relies on European partners and subcontractors, this growing awareness is a very positive development. Europe offers significant advantages as a business location, and there are numerous providers whose solutions are, in many respects, on par with those of the major U.S. platforms. We have already noticed increased interest in such alternatives over recent months. Awareness is growing and we are pleased to be able to offer Stackfield as a reliable European alternative.

Stackfield continues to show strong growth

For many companies, organizations, and businesses, the past year was anything but easy in light of ongoing economic and political uncertainties. This makes us all the more grateful that Stackfield continued its upward trajectory in 2025. We owe this not least to our customers, who continue to place their trust in us.

At the same time, Stackfield itself has grown as well. Across almost all areas, from marketing and IT to sales and support, we were able to welcome experienced and highly motivated new colleagues this year. With the largest team in Stackfield’s history to date, our goal is now to do everything we can to make working with Stackfield even more effective and enjoyable for all users.

Many new features meet user demands

Feedback from the Stackfield community is extremely valuable to us. That’s why we invested a great deal of energy this year in implementing as many user requests as possible directly into the platform. The following new features were among the highlights:

  • 📄 Live editing of office documents: Long requested and now finally available. With our optional paid OFFICE add-on, office documents can now be created and edited directly in Stackfield – individually or collaboratively as a team.
  • 💬 Voice messages: Quickly recording a message and sending it to your team? With voice messages in Stackfield, this is now easy and secure, allowing spoken content to be shared effortlessly.
  • More custom fields: We expanded the range of custom fields to allow tasks to be mapped in even greater detail. Newly added field types include "Email", "Hyperlink", and "Currency".
  • 🗓️ Occupancy planning: A new resource planning feature is now available for occupancy planning. It allows you to assign a physical meeting room to an event and instantly check room availability as well as participants’ schedules.
  • 🔎 Fullscreen mode: If you want to focus entirely on a task, you can now do so with a single click. Using "Ctrl + F" (Windows) or "Cmd + F" (macOS), the task view opens in fullscreen mode. Meanwhile, Discussions now always start automatically in fullscreen view.
  • 📞 Automatic status while on calls: A new option, "Automatically switch to Busy", is now available in your status settings. When enabled, your status will automatically change to "Busy" during phone calls.

Stackfield goes Hollywood – on YouTube and on Amazon

For us at Stackfield, 2025 was also a year of video content in more ways than one. This was largely due to the various new formats we were able to offer Stackfield users on our YouTube channel:

  • Short feature videos that give you a concise overview of Stackfield’s core functionalities in just a few minutes.
  • Practical Stackfield tips for everyday work, using concrete examples to show how the tool can be used even more effectively.
  • Recordings of our webinars and expert talks, in which real Stackfield users share insights from their day-to-day work and provide a behind-the-scenes look at their individual workflows.

But that wasn’t all. In the summer of last year, director Leonard Geßner and his team visited us and followed Stackfield CEO Cristian Mudure with a camera for an entire day. The occasion: filming for the documentary format SELFMADE, which portrays the people behind successful startups.

The SELFMADE crew spent an entire day following Stackfield founder Cristian Mudure.

For a full day, the SELFMADE film crew accompanied Stackfield founder Cristian Mudure through his daily routine, from tennis training to the Stackfield office in the heart of Munich and on to the Hofgarten. During the shoot, Mudure spoke about his personal journey and what motivated him to move to Germany and give up a well-paid position in favor of the uncertain life of a founder.

Since the end of November, the fifth season of SELFMADE has been available to watch for free on Amazon Prime. The full episode featuring Stackfield founder Cristian Mudure can be viewed HERE on Amazon Prime.

Opening the door to the new year

Of course, we’re not only looking back, we’re also clearly focused on what lies ahead. Here you’ll find our assessment of how the coming year may unfold, along with a preview of the new developments we have planned for you in 2026.

A safe harbor in rough waters

It has not yet been a full year since Donald Trump began his second term as President of the United States. Even this short initial period, however, has made it abundantly clear that Europe cannot necessarily count on the goodwill of the current U.S. administration. Why does this matter to us? Because decisions made in the Oval Office can have tangible effects on Europe – particularly in light of the already mentioned technological dependencies on major U.S. corporations.

In these turbulent times, we are all the more pleased to be able to offer our customers a reliable and secure harbor. Our clear commitment to data security based on European standards is only reinforced by developments across the Atlantic. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly evident that communication and collaboration tools from the U.S. are not without alternatives and that solutions like Stackfield have a real chance to hold their own against global monopolies.

In 2026, AI will play a major role at Stackfield

While 2025 saw several major updates, our IT teams have certainly not been standing still. For 2026, we already have a number of larger projects in the pipeline, with a strong focus on the integration of artificial intelligence.

Fistbump between human and machine

We don’t want to reveal too much just yet, but our internal roadmap is already well-filled. At the heart of everything we do is always the same question: "What do our customers need most?". Every new integration, especially AI-driven ones, is designed to deliver clear added value for all users. So you can look forward to seeing what technological innovations Stackfield has in store for the coming year.

More Stackfield content across all channels

We will, of course, continue to offer exciting webinars, valuable insights, and opportunities for personal exchange in the year ahead. On YouTube as well as across our social media channels on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, you can look forward to new content and formats. Our first trade fair appearances are also already scheduled: on March 3-4, we’ll be in Berlin at the "Digitaler Staat" congress, and from October 13-15 you can meet us at the "Smart Country Convention", also taking place in the German capital. We look forward to every visit!

With that, we conclude our brief look back and ahead and hand the stage over to the new year. We wish you a 2026 filled with great ideas, successful projects, and as little chaos as possible. Thank you for your loyalty, your trust, and the wonderful collaboration!
